[FAIE] Studying Economic Law at LHU: Effort Goes Hand in Hand with Opportunity

Hello to all new students of the Law and Economic Law majors! I am an alumnus from the 2020 cohort of the Economic Law program at Lac Hong University. Many of you are probably wondering what alumni do after graduation and how they feel about studying law at the University. Therefore, on this occasion, I would like to share some of my reflections on studying law at the University.

There Are Many Paths to Success, and I Chose LHU

I assume that if you have chosen university as your stepping stone to success, especially in the field of Law, your first wish is to study at one of the top universities in the country. However, studying Law at Lac Hong University is not necessarily a disadvantage. Why? I once asked myself: if I did not pass the entrance exams to those prestigious universities, would my passion and opportunity to enter the legal profession come to an end? I chose to study Law at LHU to seize the opportunity to pursue the major I love and to motivate myself to follow it through. Ultimately, my choice was correct. Right after graduation, I found a job aligned with my field of study. Currently, I am a jurist at the Bien Hoa City Legal Consultancy Center and have been working there for more than 01 year. I find that this job suits me very well.

    And this is my workplace.

Where You Study Is Not the Most Important. If You Meet Expectations, You Will Be Selected

During my working process, I realized that employers still tend to prioritize prestigious universities; however, they do not exclude students from other institutions from demonstrating their competence. If you meet expectations, you will pass the interview—this is also what my classmates have shared. Personally, I find that the foundational knowledge provided by the University meets approximately 65%–70% of job requirements, while the rest depends on your skills. During my time at LHU, I can evaluate that the curriculum basically meets practical demands. Depending on the field you choose to work in, you can continue self-study and equip yourself with additional knowledge.

    Dedicated and Highly Qualified Lecturers

You are surely very concerned about the University’s lecturers, aren’t you? You may hear reviews saying that lecturers are dedicated and highly specialized—and at LHU, that is true. The lecturers always care about students. In particular, if anyone in class is not paying attention, they will definitely be called upon to answer questions. Regarding teaching methods, lecturers apply various approaches such as presentations, essays, reports, oral examinations, mock trials, and lectures to suit each subject.

    Broad Employment Opportunities

Before concluding my remarks, I would like to share a little more about myself. My full name is Nguyen Van Ry. I am currently working at the Bien Hoa City Jurists Association and at the Dong Nai Provincial Legal Consultancy Center, Bien Hoa Branch. I share this so that you can feel assured about studying at LHU and not worrying about unemployment if you are competent. Regardless of where you study, employment opportunities will come if you have sufficient capability. In my cohort, although we have only graduated for 01 year, many of my classmates already have stable jobs. For example, Hoang Thi Tuyet Nhi is working at Thong Nhat Notary Office; Dao Thi Yen Nhi is working at BL LEATHERBANK Co., Ltd.; Nguyen Van Thanh is working at Bao Quang Law Firm Co., Ltd. (Single-Member Limited Liability Company). Many other classmates are also working in their specialized fields at law firms and state agencies, which I cannot list in full here.

An Environment to Develop Skills and Practical Knowledge

To achieve your desired job, I would like to offer some advice to new students who plan to pursue or are currently pursuing this major. You should focus on mastering the fundamental principles of law, knowing how to apply legal provisions to solve problems; enhance your legal reasoning through case studies and independently research real judgments and cases to develop your own viewpoints and solutions; and improve your writing, speaking, reading, IT, and foreign language skills. In addition, you should participate in Youth Union and Student Association activities, as well as clubs—particularly the Economic Law Club of the Faculty—to gain more practical knowledge. Be confident in interacting, discussing, and exchanging ideas with guest speakers to build confidence so that when you work, you will be highly regarded for your competence, such as confidently discussing cases with lawyers and colleagues to resolve cases.

Moreover, The Faculty of Administration International Economics (FAIE) always creates conditions for students to enhance practical knowledge through field visits to Provincial and District People’s Courts and to challenge themselves in competitions such as Mock Trial and Student Public Speaking Skills. As a result, your professional knowledge and skills will significantly improve even while you are still studying at the University.

Those are some of my reflections and experiences studying Law at LHU. I wish you all the best in choosing a suitable learning environment. Strive wholeheartedly to pursue your dreams!
